The president of the Democratic Rally at European University Cyprus
The president of the Democratic Rally (DISY), Averof Neophytou, held discussions at European University Cyprus relating to tertiary education and the academic community. Mr Neophytou was welcomed by the President of the university’s Council, Dr Christoforos Hadjikyprianou, and the university’s Rector professor Kostas Gouliamos. The DISY leader toured the campus visiting the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry as well as the Microsoft Innovation Center and was able to talk to students, academics and administrative staff. He described European University Cyprus as a paradigm of the growth model of the Cypriot economy.
While touring the School of Medicine’s facilities the DISY president said he “felt proud as a Cypriot” meeting students from Germany, New Zealand, Austria, Scandinavia, the USA and beyond and remarked “It is indicative of our country’s potential as long as we believe in it”. Mr Neophytou said it was imperative for Cyprus to focus on university education, the “knowledge economy”, as it was only through the expansion and deepening of education that a society could move forward and mark its presence on the world map.
