The Office of the Rector is very pleased to announce that as of today, our Rector, Prof. Andreas G. Orphanides, is the President of EURASHE (European Association of institutions in Higher Education). Prof. Orphanides was elected new President of EURASHE during the General Assembly of EURASHE that took place in Brussels on 24 September 2011. It is very significant to mention that Prof. Orphanides was elected President with the support and trust of all members of the General Assembly, since the other candidates withdrew their candidacies in his favor before the election took place. This is certainly an indication of the respect that Prof. Orphanides, European University Cyprus and Cyprus enjoy in the EHEA (European Higher Education Area) that consists of the 47 European countries.
The President of EURASHE has a leading role in the EHEA, and also has a key role in major developments and decisions concerning higher education either by the EC or in the Bologna Process. EURASHE, placing emphasis on the professional aspect of Higher Education and Applied Research, currently represents over 1200 universities, university colleges, polytechnics and other higher education institutions throughout Europe, and is a protagonist in both the Bologna Process and the EHEA.
