President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Anastasiades addresses the meeting of the Advisory Board
President Anastasiades praises European University Cyprus during School of Medicine’s Advisory Board Meeting
The President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr Nikos Anastasiades today attended and addressed the Medical School’s Advisory Board Meeting and expressed his support for the high quality work being conducted at European University Cyprus. The President said he was fully aware of the activities of European University Cyprus and of the recognition it enjoys expressing his pride that «a private initiative has created such a high caliber Center of Excellence which constitutes an honor for Cyprus».
Mr Anastasiades went on to congratulate those involved in this success, referring to the CEO, the Rector and the academic community commending them for their «truly remarkable results and initiatives». Referring in particular to the Medical School, the President noted that it attracted a large number of students mainly from Europe and referred to Germany, Austria, Ireland and the United Kingdom adding «These are the scientists of tomorrow who shall become Cyprus’ best ambassadors when the return to their countries».
The Meeting was also addressed by the CEO of the University, Dr Christoforos Hadjikyprianou, who welcomed the President into the family of Laureate International Universities, the largest university institution in the world to which the European University Cyprus belongs since 2011. Mr Hadjikyprianou said that Laureate had invested substantially in the University in the middle of the economic crisis precisely because it believed in Growth, Innovation and Excellence. The Meeting was also addressed by the Rector of the University Dr Kostas Gouliamos who pointed to the university’s top ranking in the recent assessment by QS Stars as well as to the establishment of the Microsoft Innovation Center. The Dean of the Medical School, Dr George Markoullis, said Laureate’s decision to establish such a modern institution in the Mediterranean is already resulting in considerable benefits for Cyprus.
