Launch of the fourth national competition FameLab
The European Office of Cyprus and the British Council in collaboration with the Research Promotion Foundation announce the launch of the fourth national competition FameLab ®. FameLab ® seeks the new talent in science communication, able to develop a scientific phenomenon in public within three minutes.
Originally created by the UK’s Cheltenham Science Festival, the idea of the competition is to encourage young people with a passion for science and technology to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with the general public. The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over, studying or working in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics or medicine. Undergraduate and graduate students, teachers, professors, scientists and researchers all may participate.
The ten finalists will win a two-day ‘MasterClass’ in science communication lead by a qualified UK trainer, where they will learn media and presentation skills. The top three finalists will win first, second and third prize awards. The first winner of the competition will then represent Cyprus in the major international final held annually during the month of June in Cheltenham, UK. Participants can compete in Greek or English. The language of the international final in Cheltenham is English and the evaluation criteria are the content, clarity and charisma of presentation of each contestant.
The national final will be broadcasted live by Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation in May 2014.
The deadline for submission of applications is 31 January 2014. For more information about the competition
