UNESCO Chair on Disaster Risk Reduction and Societal Safety in the Southeastern Mediterranean at European University Cyprus

European University Cyprus announces the establishment of a UNESCO Chair on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Societal Safety in the Southeastern Mediterranean.” The Chair will be led by Professor George Boustras, an expert in Risk Assessment at European University Cyprus.

The newly established UNESCO Chair aims to provide a strong scientific foundation and serve as a focal point for disaster risk reduction and societal safety in the Southeastern Mediterranean. Its primary objective is to enhance interdisciplinary knowledge and promote its integration into policymaking, contributing significantly to risk management and safety.

During its first four years of operation, the Chair will develop a wide range of activities, including:

  • Producing scientific research papers and reports
  • Collaborating with other UNESCO Chairs and distinguished visiting professors
  • Organizing public lectures and educational programs to enhance capacity building
  • Hosting participatory events and co-creation activities

The UNESCO Chair on Disaster Risk Reduction and Societal Safety in the Southeastern Mediterranean will work in synergy with CERIDES – Excellence in Innovation and Technology at European University Cyprus, highlighting the Center’s contribution to research projects, including those under Horizon Europe.
